Greetings from the Sunshine Coast, Australia!
We’ve observed a shift in trends from offshore applicants from China. As you’re currently managing applicants who may have lodged or will lodge an Australian Student visa application, we thought it would be beneficial to share some insights.
With the updates to the Genuine Student requirement, the Department of Home Affairs requires applicants to demonstrate their eligibility under the Genuine Student criteria. This involves addressing a set of new questions within the application:
Give details of the applicant’s current circumstances. This includes ties to family, community, employment, and economic circumstances.
Explain why the applicant wishes to study this course in Australia with this education provider. This must also explain their understanding of the requirements of the intended course and studying and living in Australia.
Explain how completing the course will be of benefit to the applicant.
Give details of any other relevant information the applicant would like to include.
It’s critical that any claims made in response to these questions are substantiated with appropriate supporting documents (for example, an employment letter to validate work history). Information about the types of evidence to include with a Student visa application can be found on theDepartment of Home Affairswebsite. We would suggest that applicants who have lodged their visa on or after the 23rdMarch 2024, review the information they have submitted to ensure that they have provided the Department of Home Affairs all the necessary supporting documentation to evidence any claims made in their application.
We hope this information is helpful and please feel welcome to contact us if you have any questions regarding the above.
