Welcome to the School of Law UQDear Students, Welcome to the School of Law at the University of Queensland. We are excited that you have chosen to study with us. I would like to introduce myself. I’m the postgraduate coordinator at the UQ School of Law and you can contact me regarding course selections, study plans, graduation checks and anything relating to your studies at UQ. This will be discussed in more detail at our orientation session next week. You are encouraged to attend this session as it will contain useful information and provide you the opportunity to ask us questions. We will meet for your orientation session on Thursday, 18 July 2:00pm (AEST), in the Forgan Smith Building (01) - Room W332. In this session, we will provide important information about your program, enrolment information and key University information. We will also answer any questions you may have regarding your studies. In the meantime, I have provided some information below to assist with your commencement. IMPORTANT INFORMATION Please enrol in a course before the final date for addition of courses - 2 August 2024. If you have not already done so, please access mySI-net via the myUQ dashboard (available at https://my.uq.edu.au/ ). You can add & drop courses from mySI-net. You may select your courses from the 2024 course list available on our school website: https://law.uq.edu.au/study/postgraduate/llm-courses-2024 International students commencing in the Master of Laws (LLM) that completed their law degree in a non-common law jurisdiction must enrol in LAWS7936 (Fundamentals of the Common Law) this semester. If you have not already done so, please add LAWS7936 to your studies on mySI-net. If you experience problems enrolling please email pglaw@law.uq.edu.au for assistance. Always include your full name and student number when corresponding with us. Once you have added at least one course, mySI-net will allow you to alter your enrolments (add/drop courses) freely until Friday, 2 August. After this date, you can still drop without penalty until 31 August, but will not be able to add courses. Please add four courses to your enrolment if you are studying full-time this semester. You should attend a “Getting Started” session. This session will assist you to make a smooth transition to life at UQ. It contains valuable information and we have found that students that do not attend a session are disadvantaged. Session times listed here: https://my.uq.edu.au/information-and-services/student-support/orientation/orientation-program/#StLucia-OWeek Please complete the ‘Digital Essentials’ online modules available at https://web.library.uq.edu.au/research-tools-techniques/digital-essentials These modules have been designed to assist you to familiarise yourself with the systems you will use at UQ. You can obtain your UQ Student ID Card by following instructions here: https://my.uq.edu.au/starting-at-uq/prepare-for-semester/student-id-cards Please familiarise yourself with “MyUQ” (available at https://my.uq.edu.au/ ). This website provides important information regarding the progression of your study. Click on ‘Go to my.UQ dashboard’. On this website you can access your UQ student email account, the Library website, mySI-net (to add/drop courses), Learn.UQ (where you will find the Blackboard sites for each of the courses you have enrolled in). Once you are in the Learn.UQ (Blackboard) site for your courses you can view the full course profile for each of your courses. Course profiles will give you information regarding the Course Coordinator, content of the course, readings, assessment items and due dates for assignments. Some course profiles are already available but most will become available in Orientation Week. It is a condition of your enrolment that you check your student email account regularly for important information. It is the University’s primary method of communication with students. If you wish you can forward your student email account to your personal email. Instructions on how to do this is available at https://my.uq.edu.au/information-and-services/information-technology/email/managing-student-email/forwarding-student-email-non-uq-address or call ITS (Ph: 3365 6000) for assistance with this.
