Easter Holiday Closure ELA will be closed from 2pm on Thursday, 28th March, to Easter Monday, 1st April, in observance of the Easter holidays. We will see you all back on Tuesday, 2nd April.

Visit from ELA’s Founder, Professor Rod Ellis

This month the English Language Academy was delighted to welcome back its founder, Distinguished Professor Emeritus Rod Ellis. ELA was originally established by Rod within the Department of Applied Language Studies and Linguistics, or DALSL before it moved to UniServices in 2002. Regarded as a world-leading specialist in second-language acquisition, Rod is perhaps best known for his work on task-based learning. His current research with students from Kansai University in Japan focuses on second-language pragmatic competency. He is being assisted in his work by ELA's Teacher Trainer and Teacher Valerie Bullock.

"Despite officially retiring from the University a number of years ago, Rod continues to take a keen interest in ELA, our programmes, our teachers, and our students. Being able to draw on his current research and interweve this into our course design will ensure ELA's evidenced-based programmes continue to meet the needs of our students and stakeholders."
