We are approaching the end of a significant year where the University of South Australia and the University of Adelaide agreed to support the State Government with its policy to combine our expertise and strengths to create a new Adelaide University, targeted for launch on 1 January 2026.

Before we update you on progress towards the creation of the new university, we want to recognise and thank you for your role in supporting our university this year. We value our partners, and we are very grateful for your contribution to a smooth and supported pathway for international students choosing to study in Adelaide. Thank you for your partnership.

Progress towards the new Adelaide University
As you may have seen in news reports, last month, the South Australian Parliament passed legislation to establish a new Adelaide University. This was an important milestone and signals confidence in our ambitious vision to build a contemporary, for-purpose university for future generations of learners that will aim to sustainably feature in the top 1% of universities worldwide and has been invited to join the prestigious Group of Eight upon its creation.

We are anticipating and working towards the formal establishment of Adelaide University as a legal entity in March 2024, with an anticipated operational launch on 1 January 2026. However, further legal and regulatory approvals are required before the new university comes into operation.

Looking ahead to 2024
During the transition period leading up to January 2026, the University of South Australia and the University of Adelaide will continue to operate as separate institutions, and our immediate focus remains on marketing, recruitment and admission for 2024 and 2025 intakes at the University of South Australia.

Subject to legal and regulatory approvals, it is proposed that students enrolled at the University of South Australia before 2026 and who have not yet finished their studies by 1 January 2026 will transition to the new Adelaide University in 2026, in either their existing or an equivalent program.

Extensive collaboration between the University of South Australia and the University of Adelaide is underway to design the new curriculum and prepare the program and course offerings, together with information about admission, scholarships, and fees.

Once all the necessary regulatory approvals, including CRICOS registration, are received, activities of Adelaide University can formally commence, and we anticipate that students will be able to apply to study at the new university from mid-2024. The opening of admission will be accompanied with detailed information, training (including for counsellors), promotional collateral and change management support.

We will provide you with regular updates on the transition, where possible, from early 2024, and we will be in touch at the earliest opportunity next year to provide more information about plans for Adelaide University’s agent network.

The University of South Australia will continue to work alongside our partners to continue delivering the best experience to our students, and we assure you that service will not be compromised during this transition period. Thank you again for your ongoing support.
