Sheffield Hallam stands alongside the majority in our great city who reject the racism and hate seen in some parts of the UK.Sheffield has shown that it is a welcoming and inclusive city, and Hallam is proud to sit at its heart, a University of Sanctuary which stands firmly against any form of racism, unlawful discrimination or harassment. As a large and diverse staff and student community, we continue to treat each other with respect and empathy.Sheffield is well known for being a multicultural big city with a hometown feel. We are proud of our diverse identity and being an easy-going place to live, home to international communities from around the globe over many years. We benefit from a well-established community of over 15,000 international students from 150 different countries studying at both universities in Sheffield. This is reflected by the number of international shops on high streets, food outlets from around the globe, and the varied local cultural scene. Local people welcome this contribution to life in the city and recognise the many benefits that international students provide.Sheffield is also known for being England's safest major city, a fact uncovered by a UK Peace Index study using Home Office data to measure levels of peacefulness in the UK. It was also named as the UK’s first ‘City of Sanctuary’, in recognition for taking pride in the welcome it offers to people in need of safety, such as asylum seekers and refugees.Sheffield is, and always will be, a warm, welcoming and friendly place for international students – and we look forward to our new students joining our community in the coming weeks.Back to the topSeptember 2024 arrivals and enrolmentStudents enrolling in September 2024 should aim to arrive in Sheffield by Wednesday 11 September at the latest so they do not miss International Orientation. For more information and to book orientation events, please visit our International Orientation webpage. For information about the enrolment process, please visit our Enrolment Guidance webpage.
