Dear Friends and Partners, |
|
"Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose" After a year of chaos and uncertainty, we end the year much in the way we started, unsure of what direction the government will take and how it will impact our sector into the future. Yet despite it all our industry endures, driven at its core, by the fundamental desire to provide our students with the best opportunities we can, to reach their potential.
As we go into Christmas and 2025 I find myself even more resolute to ensure that regardless of what changes are implemented, caps or not, Murdoch International remains committed to Murdoch’s shared values and providing our international students with the exceptional experience they deserve.
I wish all of you the Merriest of Christmas’ if you celebrate it and I look forward to working with you all in 2025 for another exciting year of Building a Brighter Future, Together.
Kind Regards, Euan McMillan Head of International Recruitment

Insights from the Department of Home Affairs on Genuine Student (GS) Requirements |
|
Following the introduction of Genuine Student (GS) requirements on 23 March 2024, student visa applicants must now answer a set of GS-specific questions (in 150 words or less) and declarations. On 14 November 2024, the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) conducted a workshop for CRICOS-registered education providers to clarify these requirements. Key takeaways include: Suggestions for Effective Responses: - Responses should be specific to the applicant's circumstances and not generic responses
- The GS assessment focuses on whether the student's primary purpose for coming to Australia is to study, rather than their intent to remain temporarily.
- It is important that students’ responses are substantiated by supporting evidence, which can be uploaded as separate documents
Areas of Increased Scrutiny: The DHA may apply additional scrutiny or assign limited weight to applications that include:- Generic responses
- No supporting evidence with a claim
- Implausible claims regarding the value of course to applicant’s future
- There are inconsistencies in the responses and the documentary evidence provided.
Please ensure that student applications follow these guidelines to better align with DHA's requirements. |

Noongar Season - Birak (December - January)
The Noongar Season ‘Birak’ is represented by the colour red, which symbolises heat, sun, and fire. Birak season sees the rains ease up, and the warm weather starts to take hold. The afternoons are cooled by the sea breezes that abound from the southwest. This was the fire season, a time to burn the country in mosaic patterns. With the rising temperatures and the decreasing rainfall, it's also time for the baby frogs to complete their transformation into adulthood.
