Update: proposed legislation on international student caps

The University of Melbourne received information about the indicative cap on international students from the Australian Government recently.
The proposed legislation on international student caps will not impact international students who are already enrolled at the University of Melbourne and continue to study here. The University is seeking more information from the Australian Government about how the proposed legislation may affect new international students who are considering studying at the University.
The University remains committed to welcoming talented students from around the world and providing a world-class education. The University is a large university, with over 60,000 students in 2024. Applications remain open for many courses, and we look forward to welcoming new and returning international students to the University in 2025.
We are aware of many rumours since the announcement of the proposed legislation and want to reassure you that we will continue to communicate our entry requirements in a timely and clear manner.
