Hertfordshire Internships Launched

The first students have now signed up to undertake a Hertfordshire Internship in 2025. All who meet the eligibility criteria are currently being matched with a company in 18 career fields, and will proceed to complete this professional development opportunity for 15 hours per week, for a duration of 8 weeks.

There are still places left and anyone coming to Herts for postgraduate study is eligible to apply if they are at CAS stage.

All eligible applicants have received an email explaining how to sign up for this upskilling opportunity to enhance their CV. Please help remind students this is available to them so they do not miss out.

LanguageCert Test Discounts

We have partnered with LanguageCert to provide discounts for Hertfordshire students booking English Language tests. Applicants can book a test visit the LanguageCert Academic website and add the Promo Code at checkout:

eVisa and Share Code Guidance Workshop

We ran an eVisa and share code guidance workshop for our January 2025 cohort to help them navigate the steps required to set up their eVisa account. The session covered information on;

What is an eVisa

Accessing an eVisa
Support resources
Share code generation

The workshop is now available to watch on YouTube and includes how the process ties in to registration at Herts.

Reminder of our £500 accommodation discount

Our £500 on campus accommodation discount is still available for the January cohort. The discount is available for all de Havilland rooms and Townhouse rooms on College Lane.

For students joining us in January, now is the time they need to book their accommodation. They do not need to wait for CAS or visa approval, as any students who are unable to register will be released from their contracts. Students must have accommodation arranged before travel as they may get asked to evidence this at boarder control.

Airport Collection Bookings Available

There are still spaces on our free coach collection service from Heathrow to campus. If you have students arriving to Heathrow on the 18th or 19th of January, please help us raise awareness of this service.

Students who have used the coach service will also be provided with a voucher for a free meal on campus as we know they will be hungry after their travels.

New Vice Chancellor Announced

Following a rigorous and competitive recruitment process, the University of Hertfordshire has announced its appointed Professor Anthony Woodman as its next Vice Chancellor.

Currently Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost at the University of West London (UWL), where he oversees an extensive remit that includes academic schools, enterprise and knowledge exchange, through to home and international student recruitment and the launch of the School of Medicine and Biosciences in 2024, Professor Woodman will commence his role at Herts from 1 September 2025.

Professor Woodman comes to Herts with an extensive and impressive background in academia and high-level strategic leadership. A Professor of Translation Medicine (a collaborative field that combines basic science and clinical research to develop new treatments and improve patient health) at Cranfield University until 2007, he went on to work as Chief Executive of ICRI Global Research, a private organisation providing support and training in clinical drug development in India, Singapore and the UK, before joining the University of West London in 2011.

He takes over from Professor Quintin McKellar CBE, who is retiring in August 2025 after 14 years in the post.

University of Hertfordshire joins Space East cluster

The University of Hertfordshire has officially joined Space East, the newest UK space cluster aimed at driving innovation and economic growth in the £18.9 billion UK space sector.

Joining alongside Hertfordshire Futures - Hertfordshire County Council’s enterprise partnership - it will mean both organisations will have direct access to an innovative and engaged community of cross-sector businesses, all keen on exploring how their capabilities and expertise can access the opportunities presented by the space industry.

The University brings significant expertise and resources to the Space East cluster. Its School of Physics, Engineering and Computer Science (SPECS) recently benefited from a £100m investment into a new, state-of-the-art, STEM-focused building SPECTRA, which opened in September. Research conducted within SPECTRA spans space law, satellite communications, and environmental sustainability through Low Earth Orbit (LEO) data analysis.
