Dear Valued Partners,
We are aware of the Semester 2 visa delays and are reaching out to let you know how we are supporting you and your students for start of class.
Curtin has been actively lobbying Federal and State Governments, as well as Department of Home Affairs (DHA) to gain traction and transparency on student visa processing times.
Based on the advice we have received from DHA, and with the students’ experience and academic performance at heart, theUniversity has made the following decisions and commitment:
- Latest arrival date is Friday 2 August, with students required in class on campus in Western Australia by 5 August.
- Students with pending visas should enrol and class register. This will allow the team to ensure adequate timetable options for students. Please note, a separate communication will be sent with further instructions.
- Students arriving after Orientation Week and on or before 2 August, will be invited to attend the Curtin Connect Arrival Desk. There, our International Advisors will ensure that students are set up for success as soon as they arrive.
Your responsibility:
- Please inform us immediately when you have been notified with a visa outcome via thiswebform.
- Students who haven’t received a visa outcomeby Friday 26 Julywill be given the following options:
o
Defer to next semester. Please note, this means that the COE for Semester 2 will be cancelled after COB of 26 July and a new COE (for the deferred intake) will be issued upon receiving the Acceptance of the deferred offer. Your visa application is expected to remain in progress, for the 2025 intake.
o
Start at one of Curtin’s Global Campuses. Please indicate which campus your students would like to transfer to. This is subject tocourse availability at that campus. Please note, this means that the COE for Semester 2 will be cancelledafterCOB of 26 July. A packaged offer (Global Campus and Perth) will be issued, and a new COE (for the deferred intake) will be issued upon receiving the Acceptance.
o
Study fully online, offshore for Semester 2, 2024. Please note this is only available for students who have decided to study outside Australia and the course offers fully online units. If you wish to study in this mode then you will need to defer your offer to Semester 1, 2025. Your current COE for Semester 2, 2024 will be cancelled and a new COE will be issued upon receiving the Acceptance of the deferred offer. Your visa application is expected to remain in progress, for the 2025 intake. You must not arrive onshore in Australia throughout Semester 2, 2024 study period.
o
Withdraw from the course. Please note, this means the COE(s) will be cancelled and the student will need to withdraw their visa application on their Immi Account. Student will need to request for a refund for tuition fees and OSHC paid and will be given special consideration due to extenuating circumstances.
Please use this letter of support for confirmation of late arrival date for student visa purposes.
As always, we really appreciate your dedication to Curtin and the support you provide to the students during this period. Please be assured that we are committed to support you.
Kind Regards,
Barbara Lung-Jones
