The development of new and improved materials is at the very heart of a range of technologies and this programme will give you the opportunity to explore and deepen your understanding of the scientific, engineering and design aspects of materials, their structure, properties, processing, in-service behaviour and environmental impact, at a more advanced level. Bridging the gap between the physical sciences, you will gain an understanding into the atomic and molecular structures of materials to help understand their behaviour. You will also explore their applications to bring about improved performance or new products. This master’s encompasses all aspects of materials: their selection, manufacture, testing, use and applications, as well as environmental impact both during production and at the end of life. You’ll be equipped with a core knowledge of materials science and engineering that can be applied to a range of materials-based careers, giving you flexibility within the job market.
